Tasty Tuesday #1

Tonight we had Chicken Parmigiana for dinner. Courtesy of the $120 Food Challenge.

I cheated a little with this. Rather than doing it from scratch, I bought a frozen, pre crumbed heart shaped schnitzel (naughty). I also bought a pre made jar of parmigiana sauce (naughty, naughty). As we are still without an oven, I am still using our little toaster oven (which is fantastic in the circumstances).

The size of the schnitzel is so big, it will feed all of us.

I cooked/browned the schnitzel in a little oil, until golden. All went well, until I tried to take out the schnitzel from the pan, to drain it on some paper towel. It fell completely apart (that's what you get for buying processed frozen crumbed schnitzel).

While heating the pasta sauce, I decided to whack on a few potato wedges as an added side to the steamed veg I had planned.

I topped the crumbed schnitzel (which had been put back together like a jigsaw, as closely as possible) with some shaved ham, the heated sauce & smoothed it in mozzarella cheese. I cooked in until the cheese melted & browned.

I sliced 1/3 of the creation in half for the boys & the shared the other 2/3 between DH & I. I placed the wedges & steamed veg (snow peas, broccoli & carrots as a side & this is the final outcome.

Not what I would call Masterchef or My Kitchen Rules quality, but no one complained.

Footy Frenzy Friday #10

I'm sorry I didn't post about my previous Footy Frenzy Friday last week. :(

Today is Good Friday & I PROMISE I'll be back later today with a catch up.

In the mean time, tell me about your Footy Frenzy Week.

**EDITED to add update. Monday April 25, 10:10 PM.

Well I've broken a promise, by not updating on Friday like I said I would. I have gotten in by the closing bell, so I hope you'll forgive me.

Firstly from 2wks ago...

We had a double header at the 'G' Saturday night Richmond played Hawthorn. It was over after quarter time.

From afl.com.au
HAWTHORN has comfortably accounted for a youthful Richmond side by 63 points in wet conditions at the MCG on Saturday night.

The fight shown by the Tigers in an encouraging start to the season was lacking early when the contest was up for grabs.

The Hawks were much quicker to make the transition to wet weather footy and restricted Richmond to just two goals in the first half before going on to post the emphatic 17.13 (115) to 6.16 (52) win.
It was a wet night, but we sat undercover with the pram (which I would have preferred not to take. Anyway...

The boys stayed awake until almost home then flaked. I was able to get A out of the car & into bed (took his shoes off, but left his close on), without him waking. R was a different story. He woke as soon as I had go him out of the car & ended up sleeping with us.

We then returned to the 'G', for an early Sunday game between Melbourne & Brisbane.

It was another wet one (it absolutely poured at one point), but this time the pram stayed in the car & the boys sat in their own seats undercover (well when they where sitting & not running, jumping, climbing... around).

From afl.com.au
MELBOURNE has recovered from a slow start to record its first victory for the season with an 11-point win over the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Sunday.

The Demons won 12.10 (82) to 11.5 (71) in a match played in both brilliant sunshine and driving rain, with Liam Jurrah booting five decisive goals.
We should have won it, because we let a 25-point lead turn into an 11 point loss. We just didn't want to win.

Last week Brisbane had a bye, while Richmond played Collingwood.

As I'm working Fridays, it makes it a little tight in regards to getting to BIG matches early & Tiges V Pies is BIG. We didn't end up going, which I know hubby was upset about, but these things happen.

From afl.com.au
COLLINGWOOD has flexed its collective muscle and brushed aside Richmond for a comprehensive 71-point victory at the MCG in front of 58,050 at the MCG on Friday night.

The Magpies had to fight off an impressive third-quarter comeback from the young Tigers, but the reigning premiers again proved it would take something special to stop them this season with a 23.17 (155) to 12.12 (84) win.
Nothing to add. The Pies toyed with them in the 3rd, but steam-rolled ahead in the last.

Easter week Richmond took on North Melbourne & Brisbane hosted St Kilda, but I'll discuss that next week.

2yr MCHN check up

We had our 2yr check up today. The MCHN wasn't our usual one (she's on holidays), but I really liked the one we saw.

Firstly, she wasn't prepared to do a proper 2yr check up, as R&A are prem & she would prefer that their 2yr check up is at corrected age. I wasn't fazed, although I can see her point.

Secondly, she commented on R's nasal issue, almost as soon as we walked in the door. She said that we should request a referral to see an ENT specialist & an audiologist. After chatting a little longer, she mentioned how cow's milk may be causing an allergy, because in some people, it creates more mucous & that may be causing our issues (Thinking back, I suppose R's issues started just after he went to cow's milk). She suggested we try A2 milk for a little while, then if there's no change, see our GP about the referrals.

I was sure there was going to be a large height & weight difference between the boys, but apparently I was wrong. R is now 10.2kgs & 85cms (I think. Can't remember 100% & blue book is in the car) & A is 13.2kgs & 86cm.

We have another appointment on 9wks to do a proper 2yr assessment, so it will be interesting to see if anything changes in the short space of time.

Meet Me on Monday #2

I've been a busy girl & haven't been blogging. Major Nablopomo Fail.

Boys' Birthday was good. Dinner with grandparents on Saturday night, then a playdate with a set of gorgeous girls (twins) on Sunday (their actual Birthday).

Now down to some blogging, meme style.

1. Caesar Salad or Garden Salad?
I'm not really a salad person. We only ever got meat & 3 veg as kids. If I had to chose, it would be caesar over garden though.

2. Will you be watching the Royal Wedding on April 29th?
Yes! (enough said. LOL!)

3. Last thing you spent lots of money on?
Hmmm... First thing that comes to mind, is my last IVF cycle. It was money worth spent. :D

4. Window seat or aisle seat?
Window. I like to see what's going on.

5. Do you know your blood type?
I do now after my many hospital stays while pregnant. Before then, I had no clue.

Footy Frenzy Friday #9

Well I've failed the April Nablopomo already. Oops. :(

Anyway... It's that time of the week again. :)

I'll get back to you with my post later.

In the mean time, tell me about your Footy Frenzy Week.

Meet Me on Monday #1

Another meme to keep me blogging.

Henry Cavill plays
Charles Brandon
in The Tudors
1. Who would be your dream celebrity date?
I have been watching The Tudors (TV series about Henry VIII) & have found myself drooling over Henry Cavill. He can take me to dinner any time. ;)

2. Do you have any food restrictions?
No, but I should start restricting my soft drink intake (No wonder my weight loss is going no where).

3. How much time do you take to get ready in the morning?
That depends on whether you mean me alone, or me with added extras. LOL!!

If you mean me, then I can do it in 5-15mins (depending on if I have showered the night before & if I am going to work. If I am, then add another 10-15mins on).

If you are including the cling-ons (LOL!!!), then on top of my 5-30mins, add another 30mins (which includes changing nappies, chasing them around the lounge to change nappies, chansing them around to put clothes on... ).

4. Sausage or bacon?
Can't you have both?

5. Do you Google, Bing or Yahoo?
I'm a Google girl.

Multiples and More QOTW: What do you think of the toy ban?

There's been a lot of discussion lately about the proposed toy ban at McDonald's. If you haven't heard about this, check out the story on CNN. From what I've seen it's a pretty heated debate, some people say that the toys are used a marketing ploy to get kids to eat at McDonald's. Last time I checked, our kids can't drive, so obviously the parents/caregivers have something to do with it. My stance on the whole topic is this (and you can agree or disagree, no hard feelings here): The issue of childhood obesity and toys in Happy Meals, which is what the debate is boiling down to, really has nothing to do with toys, in my opinion. Parents have to be educated on what they are feeding their children. My kids have eaten at McDonald's, it's definitely a treat for them whenever we do go, the toys have zero influence. And am I the only one that noticed only McDonald's is being targeted? What about Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, etc? So here's the question:

What do you think of the toy ban?

Well this is obviously in reference to an American government decision, but definitely relevant world wide.

R&A rarely (they are 2 for goodness sakes), get junk food. I am the parent & they are the child/ren, so when the time comes, it will be my final decision whether or not they eat junk, not whether they have collected all 4 toys in the series at Maccas.

When I was growing up, happy meals were just starting out. I can remember getting a plastic ship/boat, that was the box to the meal. When you finished your meal, you had stickers to stick on the ship/boat to pretty it up IYKWIM.

I will admit (pre-kids) buying a happy meal or three, because I (as an adult) thought that they had an OK toy in it. TBH, since the boys were born, I haven't even noticed what toys accompany happy meals (maybe that's because we [in Australia] have a ban on junk food being advertised during children's television viewing times).

So long story short, it doesn't bother me if they have a toy or not. IMO, I don't think it will stop parents buying junk food for their children, if they were planning on doing it anyway. The only ones who will be upset will be the kids & how long do the kids actually play with those toys anyway (I'm sure they are forgotten about, before the car is out of the car park).

Footy Frenzy Friday #8

I never updated you from last week. *Sorry*

There was an average crowd at the 'G' to see Richmond & St Kilda on Friday night. It was a great game with Jack Riewoldt falling heavily in a 1st quarter marking contest & sustaining concussion, then Lenny Hayes suffering a season-ending knee injury in the 3rd (OK not so good for them in regards to injuries).

There was rain throughout the game & when the final siren blew, scores were level. St Kilda 4.6 7.10 9.12 13.17 (95) Richmond 2.4 9.5 10.9 14.11 (95)

In the other game we attended last weekend, it was what you would call a white wash. A thrashing if you must.

My boys (Brisbane Lions) where humiliated by the Western Bulldogs. Enough said really. Western Bulldogs 5.4 10.4 14.7 19.9 (123) Brisbane Lions 0.2 3.5 4.7 6.9 (45)

This weekend, we again have another double header. Richmond V Hawthorn on Saturday Night & the MCG & Melbourne V Brisbane at the MCG on Sunday. We can't get enough of the Footy.

So what have you been up to during your Footy Frenzy Week?

Menu Plan Monday #4

We did well last week, only swapping Saturday's planned Homemade Hamburgers for Cottage Pie, that was made from the leftover Savoury Mince. I found a small ramekin dish that fitted in my small toaster oven that I am using while our wall oven is out of action, topped it with mashed potato & shredded cheese & served it with pumpkin (which is R's favourite vegetable at the moment), cauliflower & broccoli. Mmmmm!!

Now onto this week

Monday - Homemade Hamburgers, Wedges & mixed veg
Tuesday - Lamb Souvlaki Wraps
Wednesday - Fried Rice
Thursday - Chicken Schnitzel Rolls
Friday - Homemade Fish & Chips & mixed veg
Saturday - Take Away (We have a night game of Footy).
Sunday - Hotdogs (After the other Footy game).
